MTV Dreams

Yesterday I teamed up with Rex Arrow Films to set choreography on a music video for the very talented gentleman, Theo Martins. I've been doing more and more film work and I'm starting to feel like that's really where it's at. "It" being my imaginary future, that is. I don't think I'll ever give up making work for the stage and live performance, but I am learning that the process is a tumultuous one, physically and emotionally. Choreographing for film is a totally different experience, and the film environment in general has its own special energy. I love being on set, directing dancers, and helping to create a cohesive aesthetic for each shot...sometimes in only a couple of minutes. I had about a week and a half to work on the moves for the video (NOT a lot of time for said job) but my dancers were super capable and smart, which always makes on- the- spot changes easier. The vibe of the vid is inspired by Robert Palmer's "Simply Irresistible", but I'd like to think I was able to mix in a little bit of "Single Ladies" sexiness, too ;) Stay tuned for the preview!
