Throw Back: The Gully
Ever since I was a little girl I have been passionate about the environment. Fern Gully was my favorite movie, and when the town bad guy Stealin Plotsker* came to cut down the woods behind my home (tree-house and all) to develop a complex of condominiums I was devastated. Secretly relishing the idea of saving my own forest, I went out there with my can of (eco- friendly) paint and sprayed green over all the red 'X's he had put on the trees he planned to cut down. My mother and father banded together with our neighborhood to petition against the development, and, although my tree-house still got the ax, we were spared a few trees and instead of the condos, he just built three McMansions.
Recently, in Duane Reade of all places, I was thrown back to those glorious days of playing outside in my magical woods when, at the register, I came face to face with a copy of Fern Gully on DVD! Of course I bought it, and commenced watching my old time fave as soon as I got back to my apartment. Here is a clip for you in case you need a reminder of just how awesome and relevant this movie was and still is:

ME SO HAPPY :)
Secret Code for Savvy Skincare
My friends at Amala, the German organic skincare company, have taken a liking to The Green Room and want to give its savvy readers 30% off all their luxurious Ecocert products. I highly recommend the Detoxify Body Firming Treatment (the myrtle scent has all my housemates hooked), and the Purify face care line, which is my skin's saving grace against the city's toxins. Enjoy!

Acai: Valley Delicious!
Following my phenomenal (yes, its true) bikini wax at Valley last week, a truly original boutique/beauty bar on the Lower East Side, I was offered a bowl of exotic goodness to end my visit. The hot older sister of yogurt and granola, this snack is served cold and crunchy: The blended Acai has a texture between smoothie and sorbet, and the crisp granola adds just the right amount of sustenance for a light meal or hearty snack. Valley's Acai Bowl is 100% organic and is packed with anti-oxidants and energy boosting proteins and lipids, which kept me energized well into the day. Who knew a vintage clothing store could be so much more?
Dimanche a La Grande Wasteland
I was checking out Sight Unseen when I found this photograph of a Seurat reproduction... made with 106,000 ALUMINUM CANS! That's how many cans Americans use every 30 seconds- and socially conscious artist Chris Jordan wants to show us what that number looks like. His works depict the mass waste of materials (and cash) that the United States is responsible for, with a truly alternative perspective.
